Maxine was born in Wauneta, NE on December 22, 1921, a daughter of Ralph and Minta (Speer) Grosbach. They preceded her in death, along with her twin brothers, Ronald and Donald Grosbach.
She married Vincent Gennaro on July 16, 1946 in Enders, NE. He survives, along with their son, David (Kim) Gennaro of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; daughters, Linda (Pastor Ken) Durst of Peoria, Lois Gennaro of Peoria and Rebecca (Chris Grainger) Gennaro of San Diego, CA; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and sister, Gladys (Dwight) Hoff of Imperial, NE.
Maxine graduated from the University of Nebraska, earning her Bachelor of Nursing in 1941. She was a huge fan of University of Nebraska sports.
She was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran, serving as a nurse at Camp Carson, CO Hospital. Through the years, Colorado remained her favorite place to visit.
She retired in 1983, after twenty years, as a nurse in the Neonatal Nursery at Carle Hospital in Urbana. She was a pastor’s wife and a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Maxine enjoyed listening to Gospel music and “Holy, Holy, Holy” was her favorite song.
Maxine loved family get-togethers and was especially proud each year she and Vincent would celebrate their anniversary. She was very proud of her children’s marriages and careers and loved her family deeply, especially her grandchildren.
